I have had my tongue pierced twice (the first time it healed over because i had to take it out for xrays on neck 2 days after i got it. now its been pierced again for 2 years) and my sister has had hers done 3 times and yes 3 holes going down her tongue. The only reason the roof of your mouth would bruise is if the roof of your mouth is low or the area is too small for the tongue ring you have chosen. As long as you take care of it as the piercer tells you to then you should be fine. There have been reports of people getting sick from it but all the ones that I have heard about have been about people not keeping mouth sterile by using mouth wash (which is required).

This is bull. Don't listen to these people. I have my tongue pierced, and I'm only 14. It's very hard for your tongue to get infected because of the bacteria in your mouth. It also helps clean it.
It will not hurt the roof of your month, and once it's swelling, it will hurt for a bit.
The only thing is, you need to wear a retainer(a clear ALL plastic tongue ring) when going to the dentist. If they need to do like a cavity fill, you will need to remove your tongue ring.
Depending on your jewelery, it can chip your teeth enamel. Although, you can get plastic balls that make it harder to screw up your teeth.

i have my tongue pierced. if you take good care of it, which is pretty easy, then you should not have any problems. also make sure you do not use tongue rings w/ metal balls. they will break your teeth if you bite down on them. (i have bitten on them many times, luckily i had plastic ones) i know you can get infections, but make sure you go to a reputable place, and use H2Ocean! this stuff is so great for piercings. but i must say that the tongue piercing is not worth it. it is so painful while it is healing in the first week, and it is very hard to eat. but after a couple of weeks you get used to it. hope this helped!

Well.... I've had mine for 9yrs now.... and no it hasn't caused me any health problems. I brush my teeth daily. Brush my tongue, use listerine like normal people. I go to the dentist yearly...and not once have they told me my teeth are rotting. My breath is not funky. I have all of my teeth and I love my stud...gives me something to play with when I'm bored.
yes when u get it your tongue swells... but it is minor.

Even if you get a gold or silver plated stud, it rots your teeth. I wanted to get one done, so I looked into it. Unfortunate.. xx
