Mainstream music, is not for me, for instance.... I love AFI, but now that they have gone mainstream, it just sucks. Bands like Dashboard confessional, that were so unpopular and unheard of, are my style, but then they get one big hit on the radio or MTV, and everyone knows about them. Then your music just doesn't feel as special anymore, at least it doesn't to me, how about you?

I completely agree with you! I went throught that with Dido, Jack Johnson, and KT Tunstall. It sucks! It used to feel like my secret little find. You could hardly even find their cd's in stores early on. Now they all get overplayed on the radio.

My favorite band, Children of Bodom, isn't mainstream yet. They're gaining popularity but I don't think it'll get to the point where they sell out, they're too smart for that (but their latest album was pretty stupid).
And even if they do go mainstream, all the good stuff is already recorded so whatever the band is doing, I can still listen to their stuff.
As for the music not feeling as special anymore, you can still say "ha, I was a big fan before you even knew they existed".

yep. The members Green day are media whores, since their recent popularity. I don't like them as much. The Goo Goo's have started down that path, but I still Love them so! it feels like they sold out, just for the fake "love" that they will get from their new fans, that is, until the next music fad comes along. It PO's me when you mention a band that you liked and some little airhead says "Oh, i Looooove Iris, Vindicated, etc." They don't even know these great bands have other songs!

If you base who you like on how popular (or un-popular) they are then you're not in it for the music or support of a band. It's always good to see an artist you like become sucessful, it means they achived what most of them started playing for. Sure, SUPER HUGE sucess sometimes comes with negative effects for long time fans (shows harder to get into, not as personal, ect) but I'm always happy for them when they come into the limelight, especially if it's a band I know personally.
And the Blink 182 girl is a total moron.

Yeah i really hate it. Most of the time I stop liking the music. But, I can't help it I would rather listen to something that not everyone else is listening to.
