My toilet was clogged and after I plunged it (and it started flushing) I found that water is leaking from between the toilet and the floor. I have had problems with this bathroom before. If I turn off the water valve, will that stop the flood until morning? Thanks for all of the quick responses!!

Ok......I have checked and there is no shut off valve behind the toilet. It appears that the leaking has stopped. It seems that the last time I had this problem, we could not find the shut off valve either. Any suggestions to get me through the night........it is getting late and I have a really important training class in the am and have to get myself and the kids out the door early. I won't be able to tackle any projects until at least tomorrow night or Monday...............this always happens at the worst times!!

First tighten the floor bolts. No Help you need a new wax ring. Drain the toilet and turn off the water until you can get one tomorrow. That is if you have another toilet to use for the night, if not put some towels down. Good Luck

That is easy to repair. Turn the water going into your toilet off, then flush the toilet to empty the water from inside, disconnect the water pipe from the bottom of the toilet tank, on the base of the toilet there are nutted studs covered with some type of caps, remove these caps, remove the nuts from the floor studs, pick the toilet up off the floor studs and move it away, there is or was a wax gasket between the sewer drain pipe and the toilet it's self, this is more than likely where it is leaking, the wax can deteriorate with age, save as much of the old wax gasket as possible, take it to your local hardware, plumbing, or store such as Lowe's, match the old to a new one and reverse all the steps you did in removing the toilet when reinstalling it, be very careful not to damage the new wax ring or gasket when setting the toilet back on the sewer drain pipe, It might be a very good to buy an extra wax ring while at the store just in case, also be careful and don't over tighten the nuts when re-bolting it to the floor.

The seal underneath the toilet is broken. There should be a water shut off valve behind the toilet.Shut off the water, drain the toilet, pull it off the floor, replace the wax ring under it,put the toilet back in,and turn the water back on.

First is the water comming from uder the toilet or from the back of it . if it leaks without flushing it is probably a cracked tank or a leaking flex hose. If water still leaks without the toilet being flushed for 5 minutes shut off the valve on the wall near the back bottom of the tank that should stop the water.

The wax seal is bad. Turn off the water to the toilet (in the back) remove the toilet and replace the wax seal.

could be the sewer pipe is blocked, but if its coming from underneath, when you flush, then the rubber seal is perreshed and needs replacing,if you want to tackel this yourself, first get a knew seal from the plumbing supplies, then remove screws that hold the toilet pan to the floor, then the pan can just be lifted up,remove old seal and replace with knew one,use a little dish detergent on the knew seal, to make it easyer to push pan back into knew seal, then re screw pan to floor and the job is done, good luck,ps its not that hard to do
