There have been many bad hurricanes in U.S. history. The most devastating hurricane was the one that struck Galveston in 1900. It practically destroyed the entire city. The most expensive one was Katrina.

Hurricane Andrew in 1992 -- Category 5 that hit south Florida then crossed the Gulf of Mexico to hit the US again. One of the strongest *named* storms to hit the US. Or, the Galveston Texas Hurricane in 1900. It's really a toss up

Many would say Hurricane Katrina in 2005, but I completely disagree if you are talking worst in terms of death toll or actual storm strength.

I think you have to define "worst" in order to have a meaningful response.

For instance Katrina was a very expensive hurricane but many hurricanes have caused more loss of human life.

I might vote for the famous Galveston, Texas hurricane that hit on or near the year 1900.

Little is known about Hurricane Humperdinck, but this monster tore apart a little shack on one of the islands of the Caribbean back in the 1950s. Devastation followed for the family of mice that built their whole lives inside this abandoned abode. I still weep for them.
