Don' tyou think it's a bit on the arrogant side to think the man can destroy the planet that has been here for what 1 or 2 or 4 Billion yrs. Come on,several million or billion belching and farting dinosaurs didn't destory it with greenhouse gases and volcanos spew moreof that stuff in the air than man ever has. Mt Pintubo sent more sulfur into the air than we have. CO2 Hah that's what trees and plants take in before porducing oxygen. Plus there are more tree in the US than there were 300yrs ago.

We are doing alot, but there is so much that needs to happen that is bad for our enviorment before we can do anything good for our economy.
But someone who's not helping us, is the public media. They make everything sound like its going to kill us.
You know the global warming thing? Just a myth. GLOBAL WARMING HAS NOT BEEN PROVEN. It has not in anyway been proven.
Did you know we are actually in an ice age? Its true! They have hot and cold periods. We are currently in a hot period. Soon enough, as in, 100 years, we will start cooling down. We are in, by any means, in no danger of the ice caps melting.
Polution? Yeah, its a problem. Racism? Terrorists? AIDS? Sudan genocide? Levy rebuilding? All bigger problems that we need to worry about today.
Again the media, because we are working on the other problems, the media will gladly remind us (we dont forget about our problems, trust me) that we have stuff to work on. And those media nuts will make it sound SUPER DESPRITE. They really blow it out of proportion.
The reason the media does that? Because they want to see America fail. They want to be able to say "NYAH NYAH NYAH NYAH, NYAH! Told ya' so!!!"
Thats whats wrong with America. No one likes each other. No one wants to get along. No one cares about anyone else.

Because most people even environmentalists want to have their cake and eat it also. People want their comforts, in America it's there large cars and SUVs that are a status symbol that says I have more money than brains. I drive a KIA Rio because it is an inexpensive car with great gas mileage. Also, in the US we want our huge houses that consume tons of energy a year to heat and cool. Some people do not even open there windows ever. Most of the more practical solutions get killed by the general public because they do not want power plants in their area. The third world countries are even worse. Here, we trim some old growth forests to try to keep them healthier, but once again the environmentalists don't want us to cut any trees even on private property but complain when the price of wood goes up.

A lot of ignorant people think despite the fact that there are six billion of us, that we could not actually do any appreciable damage to the earth, this is just not supported by science, they don't understand how interconnected and fragile the earth is. They find it hard to change old habits. Alot of religous nuts believe that their god will come back before long and therefore it does'nt make any difference, which is a large reason the Republican party continues to stay in a state of denial on the subject. Unfortunately our children and their children will have to pay for peoples foolishness.

Well science has proof that our planet/world will end. Either this being biblical or scientific with the sun going out and all life freezing over and blah, blah, blah.
I think you have been reading into Al Gore's question a little too much.
Truth is, I don't care about the planet, I mean it's going to end, I don't litter not because "it's going to save our environment," but because I don't want to get a $500.00 ticket for doing it.

Because Corporations and Governments think the damage done now will not affect them now but they are not thinking of the future.
They only plan for the here and now because when they are long and gone we and the next generations to come will have to deal with it.
Or they might think of colonizing another planet only to do to it what has and is still being done to this planet now. What a vicious cycle.
Heaven help us all.

It's because people only care about the here and now. They don't think about the ramifications of their actions 25 years down the road - or else, they just don't care. And everyone is out to make money. If people can get by with dumping their waste in the ocean or not having pollution filters in their factories, then they'll do it as long as it's more profitable for them.

Because it's the only one we can reach, silly!
And it matters very much to those who can initiate the solutions. They just can't figure out what solutions to initiate.
If you believe that more must be done, then you must do more. That is the one thing I can guarantee that you can control.

wow, such a no brainer. it is all about greed! i am not putting you down as you have a valid question. the big oil companies have no incentive to produce any alternative fuel while they are making huge profits at our expense. auto makers have the technology but wish to cash in on the new trend. it does not cost them a fkn amount of money to build a energy eficient vehicle. yep, easy for me to say as i just retired and moved back to a small country town. i walk just about every where i want to go unless there is something heavy to carry. bring back the horse and buggy.
with love to all,
paul
