No it will not go away, you need to see the OB/GYN for an anti-fungal.

I don't understand why you are scared to talk to your mom. Many young women and women in general get yeast infections, and you have one.

Don't wait, it will get worse and then you will regret not getting to the doctor sooner.

First off, different vaginal infections tend to have very similar symptoms, so if a woman is experiencing one for the first time, or is unsure about a proper course of treatment, she should definitely see her doctor in order to get a proper diagnosis.

With that said, yeast infections are caused by an overgrowth of an organism called Candida albicans. This critter is sometimes present in the vagina in smaller numbers without any symptoms, but occasionally a change in their environment gives them a chance to really multiply and grow out of control. These overgrowths are easily controlled with medications designed to kill the Candida organisms. Treatments come in a wide range of forms including pills and vaginal creams, which may need to be taken anywhere from one dose to a week-long course of medication. While some treatments are prescribed by a doctor, many are available over the counter.

So, how can a woman tell that she has a yeast infection? Most women associate a thick discharge that looks like cottage cheese with the Candida bug, although only about 20% experience it. If it is present, the discharge may either have a starchy odor to it, or perhaps none at all, and its color can vary from white to a more yellowish tinge.

Since not everyone gets the discharge, the easiest way for a woman to tell that she has a yeast infection is that she itches in and around her vagina. A lot. The itchiness may be accompanied by a burning sensation, and her vulvar area can be red and swollen. It may also burn or be generally painful for her to urinate, and sex may become painful as well. A good way to distinguish the burning on urination that is due to a yeast infection vs. a urinary tract infection is to pay close attention to exactly when the burning starts and stops. With yeast, the burning is due to acidic urine hitting the irritated skin of the vulva, so the burning starts when the urine reaches the outside. With urinary tract infection, the burning is felt as the urine passes down the tube on its way out.

While these are the general symptoms of a yeast infection, every woman may experience one differently. She may identify an infection by the smell and consistency of the discharge, which can be unique to her. However, certain symptoms definitely do not go along with a simple yeast infection, and they may indicate that something more serious is going on. For example, if she is feverish or is experiencing pelvic pain, these are definitely indications that she ought to see her doctor in order to receive a proper diagnosis and medical care.

The most common symptom of yeast infections is itchiness in and around the vagina. Sometimes a rash or redness appears near the vagina, and it might burn when you pee. During an infection, normal vaginal discharge (the stuff in your underwear) is often thicker or clumpier, and it may be whiter or yellowish or have an odor. Some people say the discharge looks like cottage cheese.

If you think you have a yeast infection, you may want to see a gynecologist. Sometimes there's a connection between yeast production and STDs or other illnesses. Your doctor may prescribe Diflucan (fluconazole), a one-time pill, or recommend you buy Monistat, one of the many brands of yeast infection-fighters sold at drug stores for $12 to $18.

Yeast infections can cause severe discomfort but rarely cause serious health problems. Left untreated, vaginal yeast infections often clear up on their own, usually when menstruation begins. Menstrual blood raises the vaginal pH, causing the number of yeast cells to decrease because they can't grow in the pH present during menstruation

I think that offers you all the info you needed or wanted, best of luck to ya hun. It sucks that you are scared to tell your mom, I had a relationship like that with my mother as well, but I have to tell you that if you are sexually active you can spread a yeast infection. Yeast infections can be spread from genital to genital and from genital to mouth. Yeast infections inside the mouth are called thrush and cause raised whitish patches on the tongue that often occur with itchyness or sensitivity to some foods, these oral yeast infections will not go away on their own and need to be treated by a doctor, so stay safe and don't be afraid, worst case scenario you can call your family physician and make an appointment that must remain confidential, your physician will know what to do.

Best Wishes,...

When your system is out of balance, yeast-like organisms may grown profusely and cause a thick, white discharge that may look like cottage cheese and smell like baking bread.
Your period will not make it go away, if you were itching it might ease the symptoms some while on it, but the infection will still be there.

if your symptoms don't match this list, or you are confused or uncertain, go see a doctor if at all possible.

feels like an intense itching, burning sensation, localized in your vagina and vulva. this itching is not always present, but can get really bad, so bad you can hardly walk, let alone ride your bike to the pharmacy or doctor to get it treated.
looks like clumpy nasty white stuff. most medical descriptions compare the discharge to ricotta cheese, but it can range from thick and not clumpy to faintly yellow to thin and clear.

smells like bread or beer. in fact, it smells pretty much exactly like yeast, although the yeast used in brewing and baking is an entirely different species (Saccharomyces cerevisiae). no bacteria could smell like that, so it's a great diagnostic.

finally, in response to a recent question, i point out that a yeast infection will NOT cause you to miss your period.

doctor can tell for sure if you have a yeast infection by taking a swab and looking in a microscope

Ok, I may not be a lady, but I can say one thing. That is not normal. Cottage cheese? Blah, yes, tell your mom, don't be scared, it is nothing to be ashamed of believe me. There are far more things to be ashamed of then this. Besides, bacteria is like a bad omen, the longer is goes untreated, the more damage it will do. Think about it, you want to have kids some day? A common yeast infection can lead to far worse problems then just itch and discomfort.

Hope this helps, I am glad I am not a girl, but us guys have other things to worry about. Not as much but still some things.

Yes, you most likely have a mild yeast infection. If you don't do anything about it the infection will become worse and most likely painful. It will NOT go away on its own.

Yeast occurs naturally in the body. A yeast infection happens when your body's chemistry is out-of-whack and the naturally occuring bacteria no longer keep the yeast in check. Eating yogurt with live cultures and acidophilus will help prevent yeast infections, but will not "cure" them.

You can get over-the-counter treatments at your local grocery or drug store. I would suggest getting the overnight treatments since they're all fairly messy. Enduring it while sleeping is easier, (and usually less embarassing), than dealing with the goopy treatments during the day.

But seriously, talk to your mom about your health issues. Yeast infections CAN be sexually transmitted, but that isn't the only way they occur. Even babies can get yeast infections. (Thrush).

If this is the first time that you've had this happen, you NEED a doctor to diagnose it. This will help you in the future so that you know what you're looking for. It will keep you from having problems later on.

I know that it's very embarrassing to talk about such private stuff with your mom, but it is neccessary. She has probablly had one at some point in her life. She should understand completely.

Take a deep breath and go talk to your mom. It's the best thing that you can do for yourself. After you've had a doctor tell you that this is a yeast infection, you CAN buy the over the counter stuff.

Good luck!

Yeast infections can be caused by hormonal changes, antibiotics, other illnesses, just about anything. My little sister experienced a vaginal yeast infection when she was a very little girl due to multiple ear infections and tons of antibiotics. So it can happen to anyone, virgin or not. Get an OTC med. I had one once and I told the doc the very same symptoms over the phone and she said to get an OTC medicine from the store. Cleared right up.

I'm sure your mum won't be mad when you tell her, I guarantee she's had a yeast infection in her life too.

They are not usually transmitted through sex, they are more commonly just an imbalance within your body.

Please tell her that you think you have a yeast infection and would like to get some treatment. The other alternative would be to ask her for some money and go to the pharmacy and get the treatment yourself, though you should ask what is the best treatment.

Ok to off attempt to shorten it next time persons dont wana learn all this and you could possibly get much less solutions ... Dryness factors infections.. & powders do too. Adequate so essentially dont put anything down there. Lasting longer is new to your vagina.. Use lube reason sounds like your vagina is annoyed. Concerning the itching maybe the reason of dryness.. A variety of things cause infections like perfumed soaps, powders, douching, too many showers, tight garments .. Watch out and use plenty of lube. If theres no longer alternate in discharge or quantity of discharge as well as scent then the intent is irritation. LUBE is your answer
