When I listen to "Wish you were here" by Pink Floyd, I get lost in the guitar solo at the beginning. It's absolutely intoxicating - I just close my eyes and suddenly feel tragic, despite the fact that I am not actually lonely.
It's a beautiful song, and it makes me feel grateful that, if I felt like it, I could call my boyfriend, best friend, sister, etc. and say "hey, I need you to come keep me company right now," and he/she would. It's a good feeling, conversely, however, the song also forces me to feel a bit uncomfortable (which is good) and to ponder what it would be like if the above were not true.
Props, Pink Floyd, props.

Appling songs to situations in my life has been a habit from a young age. Listening to an old album every once in a while is like a form of time travel. I thought you meant the Incubus song, not Floyd. Nevermind.

the song and album are actually about there ex-guitarest syd barret who basically became to lost in the intense world of lsd to focus all of his attention on music and song writing,so the band ditched him for guitarest david gilmour.the song and cd is an ode to him, stating how he is missed and how it is a shame what happened to him,but as with all pink floyd, the lyrics and music is applied to your life so you can connect.

Songs speak an inner voice and we hear what we want the song to say to us.
Wish you were here, can only say.... I miss you and I wish you were with me now.

I can't help but think of the remake that was done after 9/11, and it reminds me of that tragic day.
