...Considering nearly everyone on the field was exhausted - both sides. Why not use someone like Eddie Johnson who did play well in the second half vs. Czech Republic?

That, my friend, is the question of the day and I'm still scratching my head!!!!! If you put a dangerous forward with fresh legs into the match (Josh Wolfe, Eddie Johnson etc) and leave them up top...they draw 2 defenders which leaves the match an 8 on 8 match over the rest of the field.

The only thing I can think of is that if the US ties they still have a chance to advance. If they loose, they are out. But then that begs the question of why did he not put fresh legs into the mid-field.

Only Bruce or Mooch can explain this...and I'm waiting!

Because with nine players, I'm sure he was focusing on a tactic of possession and defense rather than a strong attack. Beasley was a smart addition (come on, he almost had a goal) and while Wolff or another sub may have added attack, just look at how many shots Italy had near the end of the match and how much the US was playing possesion with the ball. With Pablo and Pope gone, I'm sure we'll see some new starters again vs. Ghana.

I COMPLETELY agree with you another set of fresh legs would have done wonders for the tired US team! Maybe Bruce just wanted to end the game in a tie and not risk changing things up in the last bit of the game. I disagree with his decision though.

the us team was shattered by the red cards, you don't build a new team on the spot like that. he tried to keep his team as functional as possible.

or maybe he didn't have anyone else on the bench who wouldn't jeopardize the game in its last minutes...it was a miracle that they could resist the italians with 9 men only...

I'm still waiting for the US to score a goal in this world cup...I'm worried about their scoring abilities...

No one on his team was capable of doing a better job than those already on the field...
