It certainly is one of the best new musicals to come out in a while! I saw the production in Toronto, and although there was no flying in defying gravity (tehnical difficulties) everything else was awesome.
The only problem I had was that it drifted so far from the book sometimes that it lost some of the themes and atmosphere but I guess there had to be some compromises.

The musical is much more family-oriented than the book. It doesnt deal with sexual themes or much of the contraversial stuff in the book (which is what makes the book so original).
The plot is basically the same but the characters and timeline have changed in between the book and production. For instance, in the musical, Fiyero is much more care-free and snobby.
However, i think that although they are two entirely different things (the book and the musical) i recommend seeing it anyway. Idina is amazing and so is the rest of the cast. Its very well put together and music is to die for. I loved it and i think you would too

I loved Wicked! It is my favorite broadway play! I read the book too! Gregory Maguire is a genius! I read the second book"Son Of A Witch" as well! I saw Idina Menzel and Kristen Chenoweth along with the rest of the original cast members! I saw it when it first came out and I still listen to the cd nonstop! I loved it so much! It was awesome!

Wicked the musical was awesome! Im lucky because i got to see Idina Menzel and Kristen Chenoweth! they both were the best! they were so talented! I loved everything about the show but agree that the book wasn't as good.

I am mid-book (not a huge fan). The musical surpassed all of my expectations. I have served as a critic for several shows and have a very high bar of judging plays/musicals and Wicked has passed that. It is a very well-thought out script and score and offers fun, non-traditional characters as well as female leads.

I love it so much. It so great that musicals like this can change so many people's lives. It's really the definition of great entertainment.
I loved the first book and the second one as well. I hope there is a third one too!

is that the story of the wicked witch of the east. never saw the musical but it was an interesting book.

can't fault a show stopper like 'defying gravity'.
the premise is unique and a lot of fun, much more fun that the book in my opinion.
it's a good show!
