The best thing a human can do is to keep an open mind. Just because nobody has ever seen something doesn't prove/disprove its existence. Being wrong is the great opportunity to learn, being right is a great opportunity to teach.

I guess you just do the best you can. I don't follow the tenets of any major religion, so I suppose if I am wrong and one of those religions is right, I'd potentially suffer for eternity in some sort of hell. I find that rather unlikely. But I tend not to hold to any belief too tightly, and look for the good that I can take with me from any worldview.
As far as day-to-day beliefs, in people and so forth, I suppose it's easy enough to make a mistaken judgment about someone and then regret it later, so I try not to jump to conclusions.

When we start our Spiritual Path, we have to start somewhere! The more we study and pray and meditate, we begin to receive enlightenment. If this enlightenment proves our past beliefs to be incorrect then we correct them and continue on our journey. No one religion has the monopoly on TRUTH! It was once taught that we should seek and we would find TRUTH. When you find the TRUTH for you, it would set you free. The Spiritual Journey is never static and you can always climb higher in cnsciousness and Spiritual Learning. Eventually, you receive all the knowledge you need by entering the Kingdom of heaven(Meditating) and you will find the Higher Knowledge you seek.Never fear of being wrong, you will receive correction if needed!

I would just correct my mistake and get on with life.
The whole experience of life lies in making mistakes and learning from them.
By mistake i dont mean sin.....i dont belive in sin becoz i dont belive in judging myself, thats the job of God and i'm pretty sure,he loves me and will show me the right way.

We aren't entitled to know if we are or not. Only a fanatically religious person would think that they know one way or the other.
