i mean, if there's stuff that you did that pretty impressive but not at all useful in the job you want - do you leave it out? Resume is already over a page long......

Keep the resume brief and crisp, but do not leave out important achievements. One way to do that is that you list your previous employments, when you worked there, what position, and then add one to three bullets about the most impressive things you accomplished there, and why they were important. If you keep an overall brief style and it's more than a page, then why not? Just means that you did a lot a good/important stuff. However, please make sure that all those items listed are really that impressive - there is nothing worse than looking at a long list with lots of useless items.

I've read 100's...
I really like a resume to tell me a little about the person. Are they involved with charity, sports... Sometimes the things that are not relevant, tell the prospective employer a little about you. I would rather have a resume that is long and impresses me, than a 1 pager that lacks information. Remember if you are qualified your resume will be read completely :) Don't leave anything good out.

Yes, only relevent stuff should go on your resume!
List the most recent items first; go chronologically.
If there is something impressive but not actually relevent to the job you are pursuing, depending on what it is, you may want to have a section at the bottom of the resume titled: "Accomplishments"
Good rule of thumb, if at all possible, keep your resume to only 1 page unless you are pursuing being a professor, lawyer or doctor.

Well, it would depend on what kind of job you are going for......the rule for the typical resume is only one page no more(many people when faced with a stack of resumes use the method that if it is more than one page they throw it away) and job wise you go from most current and say mabe three back....if you really want help you need to let us know what kind of job you are applying for, because there are some fields where a resume will be more than a page.
The real place to hit them is your skills part of the resume...one time, team player, ect.

Yes, you should avoid putting too much on a resume'. The reason is that it will make you appear to be over-emphasizing the positives to hide some negatives. Employers are keen to look for the right type of information. Be simple and to the point.

definately, only use the relevant stuff, in the end that is all that matters, and you are right! short and sweet, and right to the point is exactly what employers need they don't have time to read the stuff that doesn't matter to the business at hand

most of the time that's what i do but that's really your choice the more the better. most employers hire employees with a stable work history and relevant training.also it depends on how long you've had your present job.

Yes, it is very hard to have a short resume and that is what employers want to see.

3 pages long at most. And make sure that the most "relevant" points are on the first page (even just as bullet points) otherwise the reader might not make it past page one!
