Pick a favorite vs. these guys or anyone else. I went to a Mark Knopfler concert in Nashville at the Ryman Auditorium. I was mesmerized ... I was able to buy the concert online and I listen to it all the time.Hendrix did some innovative things and Clapton is a legend. Stevie Ray is amazing and Carlos just keeps on dancing on the strings ... makes them play like a keyboard. If you doubt me, get the Moonflower album from the late 70s. There are others and you've got to give some due to Jimmy Page. But Knopfler is getting better with time. On stage, he gets an enormous amount of sound with just the slightest motion. Keith Richard is pretty damn good in that way, too. So many greats, so little time to enjoy them all.

If there is a Rock and Roll heaven, you know they'll have a hell of a band.

You've made some great observations, and you obviously have great taste in music, but why even try to make a choice? There are some incredibly talented guitarists and I have known a few you may never even hear of. Enjoy it. Enjoy it all, as often as you can.

Jimi Hendrix, Eddie Van Halen, Eric Clapton and Carlos Santana are my favorites.

I am old enough to remember the Monterey festival where Jimi played and blew away the crowd. My favorite song he did there was "The Star Spangled Banner"...I cried.

Eddie really does it for me, I love Van Halen. Eric is well, Eric...still a fox and amazing on the guitar after all these years! Saw the video of "Cream" in London, wow, that was worth staying up late to watch. And Carlos is a legend. He made a come-back like no one else has and continues to put a smile on my face.

It has taken me about 20 minutes of thinking before I could actually start typing. Luv em' all...It came down to Hendrix and Santana and Hendrix gets my pick. I have an affinity for who have been given a talent and have revolutionised how people do what they do, say what say, etc... I would love to hear Jimi play the Star Bangle Banner before the Superbowl or opening up the Democratic National Convention.

Eric Clapton,Stevie Ray Vaughn, and Carols Santana are all wonderful musicians : I would not say one is better than the other, they are all great in their own ways: That is what is great about diversity.

They are all incredible, but my vote would go to Stevie Ray Vaughn. Also if you have not heard Warren Haynes play, check him out he plays with The Allman Brothers Band, solo and his band my favorite is Gov't Mule.
