♡I live in Japan and my nieces who live in the USA and love PS2 asked me this question too! No, it's NOT real. I referred them to this site↓ as well. They visit me every summer and asked my hubby if he would take them to the site of "Himoro Mansion"(*^o^*). ~ 'Fatal Frame is not based on a story of two teenagers with sixth sense running around a haunted mansion, nor about a family named Himuro that sacrified young women in Shinto rituals. According to Tecmo, it's based on two specific urban legends/ghost stories from Japan.'♡
"Himuro Mansion is the setting of the Playstation 2/Xbox survival-horror video game Fatal Frame. While the game was sold outside of Japan with the tagline "Based on a true story", the truth of this claim is questionable. Information from the game's creators tends to suggest that the game is an amalgamation of several Japanese urban legends, as well as a large amount of purely fictional material.

The existence of Himuro Mansion itself is dubious, but a commonly-held theory is that a series of about seven gruesome murders took place near the 1900's in a mansion outside Tokyo. The actual date of the murders cannot be proven, but is because of these murders that the mansion is said to be haunted. The tale originated in the rural mountainous region around Tokyo, and its status as a common ghost story suggests the strong possibility that the murders are merely an urban legend." By the way, my hubby says "Himuro" is a popular name in Japan.

It's only a video game. There is no way that Himuro Mansion exists in real Japan. It's fictitious mansion. Besides, I don't think its producers set the exact location even in the game world.
