A lot of the newer games are requiring it now -- not only DSL, just plain broadband. New games have a lot more data to send and receive, so these high-speed pipes are need to keep latency down -- in other words lag.

No, although the faster your internet speed, the better the "ping", or basiclly how fast it can send/recieve data. If you have a bad ping, the game will "skip", or in other words, be slowed down.
