Really starting to get annoying here...Somebody keeps calling my phone late at night on private and unknown numbers, when i answer, they stay on for a few seconds then hang up. i thought it might be a telemarketer but why would they hang up if they're supposed to be selling me somthing and why do they call so late? Its really annoying because i have a pre-paid account and its waisting my mins. I know i should just not pick up but im hoping one time they'll answer so i can figure out who it is. Dose anyone knowhow i can call back or *69 a private/unknown number on a cell phone.. Please help.

Hello, So you said you have a prepaid account eh? well I do have good news 4 U if you are using tracfone wireless as your service provider. Anyway if you have a prepaid tracfone you can tell the executive resolutions department and ask them if they would change your number because you are being harassed and they should issue you a new number. Their number is 1-800-339-9345
Sorry if you dont have tracfone as your service provider because I know that their are a lot more out there sych as virgin mobile cingular gophone tmobile alltel simplefreedom etc. Anyway when you get a call marked private they could have dialed *67 before calling your number to restrict the sending of their caller ID to you and it might not even be a blocked number because I have a cell and it shows up on CID but if you want to have the utmst privacy you can dial *67 before you call thus the number shows up private.

Also some cellphone carriers offer anonymous call block so anytime anyone calls you and it shows up anonymous they wont be able to reach you and they would then get a recording saying that they would have to dial *87 to unblock the number for the call to reach you because you do not accept anonymous (private and unknown calls) but it depends on the cellphone carrier.
P.S. I am really sorry to tell you this but *69 doesnt work on cellphone lines only on landlines

There is no way to do this from your phone. You should contact your provider and say that someone is harassing you. There may be a special code you do after you receive a call to make a log of that number inside the carrier so that action can be taken, or perhaps there is a way they can block private numbers, but I suspect you are largely out of luck short of changing your phone number.

The prankster paid good money for his number to be private (if he's using his own phone to call you)... He could be calling you from a public phone booth too...
Either way, there is no way to find out who's calling since telecom company has been paid to keep his number private.
Just don't pick up...

Telemarketing companies have rules and regulations. One of them is that it is illegal to make calls past 8:30pm. Sometimes 9:00pm. Depends on the state/province.
When they do answer...ask them to take you off their calling list.
