basically i want a small patch of land in the mountains, enough to build or have built a small 3 bed cabin. however i go about this, it must be as inexpensive as it can be, i want to be young enough to enjoy it for all its worth.

I don't have a solution for you, but there are tons of people out there that have the same ambitions that you have. I'd suggest going to www.motherearthnews.com and go to the forums. Do you want to build? If so there are tons of kits and do it yourself books out there. In the forums I have seen off grid (no electricity) cabins on 10 acres for 25 k. Thats pretty cheap. If you need something less expensive, the forums are the place to look.

Strawbale Home Construction is a Great way to save money on construction costs..it saves lumber and is Energy Efficient with walls that are R-40 to R-60..if the home is sited correctly LOW E windows are NOT required because it gains and releases heat so slowly...your better off. GOOGLE STRAWBALE HOME PLANS and you will find all kinds of sizes and plans..With "sweat equity" and solar panels you could have an independent weekend home for as little as $30,000 or LESS..
$10 per square foot to build yourself or more if you contract means around a 3000 sq ft home..if you dont need that much space..say 1500sqft you are going to be able to spend less or as much as your budget will allow.

WHY does it need to be in the mountains? I live near White Mt.s and I hadn't been there in about 3-4yrs., there were atleast 3 houses right on the side or top of the mountains and it took away from the beautiful scenery. Depressing when someone does that.
