I'm 19 and I LOVE classical music, especially baroque and I have a thing for opera, too. My favorite composers are Vivaldi, Purcel. Grieg and Tchaikovski but Handel, Beethoven and Verdi are really good too. Right now I'm listening to some selections from Tchaikovski's opera "Eugene Onegin". Lenski's Aria is the only song that has come anywhere near bringing tears to my eyes.

I don't know much about jazz, though. I was just never interested in it. When I hear it played in a store or on a friends radio I can really apreciate the musicall skill but I was never really atracted to the sound.

Yes, they deserve attention. I know just a little about each. I only enjoy smooth jazz, not the traditional/original style. Artists like Kenny G, Spyra Gyra, George Benson, Mutsi???( on the violin) do the style I prefer. They play on the lake here during the summer at the summer festivals. The draw has a huge crowd, too. As far as classical goes, I love that too. I enjoy attending concerts as well. The sound allows full use of the instruments and it' s nice when you know some of the music. Verdi, Mozart, Bach, Mendelson, and Brahms are a few of my favorites. And who does not love to hear The 1812 Overture or The Anvil Chorus! Great to accompany fireworks displays. Remember those old cartoons used a lot of classical music that is now familiar to most people. Think Tom and Jerry cartoons and the Marriage of Figaro...yes, they deserve attention.

I'm 16 and I absolutely love jazz. I love how it uses improvisation and chaos. Some of my favorites are Duke Ellington, The Art Ensemble of Chicago, Miles Davis, Ella Fitzgerald, Benny Goodman, Glenn Miller, and Thelonious Monk.

As for classical, I really appreciate Beethoven, Chopin, Mozart, Bach, and Tchaikovsky. Beethoven's 17th sonata is my favorite piece of music to play on the piano.

Primarily, my music interest centers around rock/punk music, but i'm in musical theater, chorus, and band, so i'm not musically ignorant. I love the classical music like charlotte church, andrea boccelli etc. more than mozart or beetoven or bach, but i still like it when i happen to hear it.(though i think some of that is technially from the baroque or romantic period in music.) i'm not as familiar with jazz. i have a few modern jazz cd's with various artists on them, but i haven't listened to them yet. even though this wasn't part of the question, i love broadway musicals and operas. i've been trying to familiarize myself with more musicals, because i only know of the really popular ones like phantom of the opera, rent, and the few ones i've been in.

They do have my attention. The problem is that people keep classing them as one boring group. They're not - we're talking about music that spans 600 years! There's something for everybody. But the cello is the best instrument in the world.

I DO! I play trombone in both the jazz band and symphony orchestra at my high school, and as such, I know more than most of the TEENS you probably know.
