You would need to hook up a router. If the computers are next to each other a hard wire router would work. If they are in different parts of the house, you would need a wireless set up. If wireless is needed, I would look into a good firewall too (which you should do anyways! :))
You would need this set up even if you had cable internet.

First of all DSL is in the phone line nad not your computer. If you do have DSL, you also have a DSL modem which is connected to both your computer and the telephone line. Now, if you want to connect other computers in your home to the DSL you need a router, which needs to be installed accordng to the instructions it comes with or according to the instructions given by your DSL provider. The router box will receive signals from other computers in the house that are wireless or connected to a wireless network adapter. When you get it right they work very fast, just like your computer that is connected directly to the DSL. Enjoy!

Well. if you want to use DSL for the one machine, what you need to do is set up a PPPoE connection. If you're using Windows XP, follow these directions:
1- Start - > Control Panel - > Network Connections
2- On the left side menu, there should be an option for creating a new connection. This will start the "New Connection Wizard"
3- Click Next>> and select "Connect to the Internet"
4- Click Next>> and select "Set up my connection manually"
5- Click Next>> and select "Connect using a broadband connection that requires a username and password"
6- Click Next>> and type a name for the ISP Name (preferably whoever your provider is)
7- Click Next>> and enter the user name and password associated with your DSL Account. Don't forget to confirm your password as well.
8- Click Next>>, and this should finish the wizard. You will now see the "Network Connections" window. To get online, simply double-click the connection name you just created.

Yes, if you have a router, then just connect it with an ethernet cable. If you have wireless then it should just detect the router.
