The first thing you have to do is change your diet. Studies show that certain foods can cause a chemical reaction in the brain.
If you are really serious about this then go one week where you eat nothing except "natural food." By natural food, I mean food which comes from nature, i.e. fruit, vegetables, nuts, grains.
For the week, eat nothing which is man-made, eat nothing which comes from animals. Drink nothing but water (lots of water) and 100% pure juices (no sodas, no beer, no wine) Do some research and find a multi-vitamin and mineral supplement. Visit a few health food stores and you will find an honest sales rep who really knows their stuff and not try to "sell" you on everything in the store.
You will feel a lot better, I promise.

You can take crap from a health store, but if it's just getting worse you should go see your doctor. If you had any other disease you would seek help, why not with this one. Just because you start taking antidepressents doesn't mean you will be on them the rest of your life. There is nothing wrong with asking for some help when you feel like crap!

Holy Basil is far better than a prescription because it has "side benefits," instead of side effects. This stuff helps to "raise the spirit," and seems to have the ability to lower the stress hormone cortisol, and balance blood sugar. It often makes a difference within a day. I would suggest New Chapter's version because it is the most potent and the cleanest.

There is no shame in seeking help from a doctor for depression. I don't recommend that people use herbal products for depression because I feel that depression it not a disease that should be self-treated. It's something that should be diagnosed and managed by a trained physician or psychologist.

No, I strongly suggest you go talk to your family doctor, if you can't afford to pay for a prescription, most doctors do get samples from the drug companies to give to patients, so talk to him/or her about this, also, most drug manufacturers have a plan that will pay for people who can't afford thier meds, like merck, etc.. I would check into that too, there are a lot of ways that you can get the help you need, but you really do need to see a doctor first.

You should seek professional help. If you feel you can't go because of money issues, call your local hospital and find out about charity care. Honestly, I know someone that did this, and he is doing SO MUCH BETTER. He feels a lot better, and they give him free meds, and meds that are very cheap.
If you are depressed get help before it gets so bad, that you can't function.
Good Luck.

St. John's Worts works for mild to moderate deppression, also if it doesn't work try Kava.
You could also try aromatherapy, scents of orange, bergamot, lemon, lemon verbena, melissa (lemon balms), petigrain, and neroli (orange blossom), Chamomile, rose, lavender, angelica
If symptoms persist see a doctor
