Well if you are going to get a CRT I would say definitely get Sony, even a used Sony that is a couple years old are still pretty good. LCDs I would say ViewSonic is the best way to go, but Samsungs are pretty good.

It is alittle known fact but there are only a couple companies that make monitors. Any CRT that says Trinitron in the corner is made by Sony though I have seen them labeled Dell, Sun, SGI, IBM, Compaq, and others. Dell Flatpanels are made by both Viewsonic and Samsung, depending on which model.

So far every single LCD I have worked on has been made by Samsung, Fujitsu, Sharp, or Viewsonic and the quality in them has been just about equal,

If you have not decided to get a CRT or LCD this is what I would recommend:

If you are playing allot of games, or allot of video or image editing definitely get a CRT, the faster response time really makes a difference in games, where as the color is allot truer for video and image editing.

LCDs are really nice if you are doing alot of general work, they are alot easier on the eyes for extended periods of time and the desk space that they save is nice. If you do get a LCD do not plan on it lasting for more then a year and a half, and this goes for all brands.

Check out tiger direct they have a great selection of LCD to choose from and explain the difference between them ...ya want a 8ms refresh rate and a min. of 250 on the brightness...i like a 270 myself...higher than 270 starts to become mainly a pure gaming monitor...and u can read feed backs from people that bought them for each and every monitor they have...and they have some awesome prices and they stand behind there rebates...got my ACER AL-1906AB LCD...19 inch for $159.00 after a $70.00 Re-Bate and it had no dead pixels. Mine is 270 on the brightness and i had to turn it down some....loll...great for games, movies,or just plain ol web surfing ect. .... check the link below.
