Want to plant a redbud tree but can't find info on when is the best time of year to plant it. The area is not hit by harsh long-term winters most years, but does experience dry summers. The yard is within a grove of large oak, hickory, and Bois d' Arc trees. Please help!

The best time to plant a Redbud, or any tree or shrub for that matter, is in the fall. This gives the plant time to establish a good root system, while the leaves and branches are going dormant. Tn other words, the energy within the plant is focused more toward the roots. Plus, moisture is more plentiful during that time, so watering is not such a heavy concern.

I live in the same area, why don't you plant it in mid Sept. That might give it time to take root before winter hits.
