Do Not Disconnect means just that -- do not disconnect it from the computer. You must follow the steps in iTunes first or you could mess up your data.

In Limewire, set your Preferences to automatically add the songs to your iTunes Library and then iTunes will add them to the iPod the next time you connect it.

What do you mean by: How do I get my songs back?

Battery life has been an issue for some models.

if you got your songs on your ipod and not your music library, set itunes to recognize your ipod as a disc, open it under My Computer, find the files you want, and copy them to your hard drive. Voila!

and don't break the connection if it tells you not to (as tempting as it may be)
