we think a rabbit has died under our deck because flies are nearby. Our kids play out there all the time. We've noticed this foul smell. Will ammonia do the job because it is totally impossible for us to reach the dead carcass to remove it, but to pour something through there just might work, right?

Dead Animal Smell

There are two relatively inexpensive solutions to your problem of which I am aware. Assuming you know the location of the smell, dousing it with a solution of water and clorox can do a good bit to kill off the bacteria that cause the smell. Another approach is a solution of baking soda and water--in this case heavy on the baking soda--which has an enormous capacity to absorb odor.

You should c if you could get another animal from someone that will go under there and ge the carcass. You said u cant reach it but it is possible if you get a really long stick i would imagine, then again i havent seen the area. Also you can try to use a pressure washer to break up the carcass.

check out the melaleuca website. they sell a product called Sol-U-Mel (a liquid) that works on skunk odors and all kinds of other things. you have to order it online- not available in stores. (I sound like a commercial.) there are a lot of uses for this stuff that are not listed online. email the company about other uses.

Dig a hole under the deck and pull it out with a coat hanger.
That is the only way.
Lime and other stuff will not help if you can't coat it.

No, you'd just be replacing that bad smell with an equally bad smell.

if you can keep the kids out of the lime, that is the correct answer....amother possibility would be to leave the dead animal area open for a skunk or a possum to drag it out and take it away to eat.

If you cannot reach it you are just going to have to wait a few days, other wise try to cover it with quick lime.
