During this heated game, the score went back and forth in a highly contested, yet enjoyable game.

Throughout the game they were some questionable class. One play involved a tag play at second which caused the runner to be called safe when it was clearly visible that he was out. This lead to the tying run.

Another play, at the end of the game...there was a play at home in which the ball was overthrown the catcher, but the pitcher was behind who caught the ball who swung around and tried to tag the go ahead runner, and due to where he was...the umpire was at a tough location to make a decisive call and called him out.

This was the second call that went against the other team that cost them the win, and forced them to settle with a tie.

Later that night, it was admitted that he did not touch the runner.

I am curious to hear people's opinions. What is the ethical and moral thing to do?

Should the team call the league and forfeit game or is okay to accept the tie? Please share...

Yes, at this point, it's too late to do anything about it.

However, I feel that the person who failed to tag the runner should have told the ump that he/she didn't tag the runner upon hearing the "out" call. That would have been the honorable thing for him/her to do. I would rather lose a game than lose my integrity any day. There is no joy in winning a game if the win is not honest. To me anyway.

Well, you can't call and ask for a forfeit. There's not really anything anyone can do. The team that got hosed by the calls can ask the league to review the officials for that game and see if they have a history of complaints against them. Other than that, there's no reason a softball game should have ended in a tie. The game should have gone on into extra innings to determine a winner.

Unfortunately, part of what makes baseball/softball so great is the human error from an umpire that can influence a game to such an amazing degree. Calls go both ways throughout the course of a season and the game should stand as called.

You've got to leave it as it is. The umpire decides who is safe and who is out, not the players. That's part of the game. If you think it better to call the league to forfeit, then there's no reason to have had an umpire in the first place. Play your next game without an umpire. Trust your teammates and your opponents to be honest about every call. That'll get ugly real quick.

Missed calls are a part of any game. I have taught for 19 years and officiated for 27 years. The game was a tie based on the rules of the game. Accept it and move on.

Leave it as is. The play should have been argued at the time of the call. There is no instant replay in recreational softball. The ump. is only human.

No, you accept the tie. The umpping is a human factor and part of the game.

If you're not cheating, you're not trying to win, ask Barry Bonds and Sammy Sosa about that.
