You fill things in the beaker and measure liquids. The funnel helps you pour things into the beaker without spillage. The stirring rod helps you...well, Mix Things.

It is interesting that most of those items you mentioned are made of glass, which tends to be very inert even to things with low pH levels. Lye has a high pH and I dont think that it reacts to glass either.

Anyway, beakers are used for measuring various chemicals and also used for mixing and heating chemicals in. Funnels are used for exactly what you think that they are used for. Stirring rods are used for stirring, also made of glass, and trust me often broken.

E. Flasks are a modified Beaker that can be corked and can mix chemicals with very little fear for spilling things. Another common tool are the tongs, used very much like oven mits. Graduated Cylinders are long glass tubes that are marked on the sides for accurate measuring of chemicals.
