In Visual Studio 2003, there are 2 Installation CD's and the rest are tutorial and MSDN library. I received 3 CDs in my package. Installation + MSDN.

Other packages are different editions. Like professional, educational, demo. Some people have the full package like 5 Cds which contain the full MSDN network (2CDS) and 1CD for tutorial and 2CD for installation.

I downloaded the one from MSDNAA and they supplied me with the 2CD version which is just installation. The new Visual Studio 2005 is 1 DVD 2.8GB (full package)

Depends on the eddition, A friend of mine had enterprise, with 6 cd's. Another had 7, I guess it also depends on where you get it and how it is packaged. The one with 7 cd's included some updates. However, like the man above said, you really only need the first 3, and only the first 2 if you dont want MSDN.
