You have more than enough power for any type of digital music work. It then becomes more about the peripeherals that you have and the quality you want. Believe it or not you can do some things with the stock sound card but using a separate card designed for digital input will improve the quality of you work. Play with what you have for a while and as you start getting familiar with the process, upgrade you sound hardware. This is also becoming a super popular thing to do so the number of applications to help you are limitless. Have fun.

If you mean you want to compose music on your system its not so much the processor or motherboard. Its all in your sound card selection and software. If you have onboard sound, it wont do a very good job. If all you desire is to listen to mp3 files you have everything you need and may want to invest in some good speakers. You also have the option of connecting your computer sound output to a good stereo system. If composing is your thing, expect to pay anywhere from 500 to 5000 bucks for hardware. BEWARE of the fact that your new 64 bit system may not accept the new sound hardware and software.

The answer? Probably NOT...if you want more quality this means more RAM, more Hard Drive Space, More CPU power, and a better sound card than one for office use and video games.

Due to thermal shinking of hard drives, chipset RF/EMI, speaker static, microphone gain static its hard to keep data from missing bits of information. Just 1/2 a second people notice one note or G-clef, or one stanza.

You'll need to get yourself a high-end audio PCI card for that computer as well in order to produce good music and some software too. Check out http://www.cnet.com/ they have good reviews on these items.

Making music isn't so much about the processor but more about the sound card. Your machine is more than powerful enough to handle this but you didn't say what type of sound card you have. You need to have a good one...
