One sure way is to use a firewall to restrict all access to the interent to only your computer's IP address, or to the mac address if you have that option.

Use security settings, WPA if you have it on yours or WEP if not. WEP isn't that great of security but it is better than nothing. Filter the MAC addresses you allow to connect, in other words, just allow yours to connect and deny everyone else. Turn down the power settings to the minimum needed for you to connect. If you have a small footprint, fewer people will even see the wireless.
Change your keys (WEP or WPA) about once a month, that will keep someone from having carte blache after bruteforcing your keys.
You could also move into a cave and give up the internet and modern conveniences, but try the first part before you do that.

hi... i had the same problem before. anyways, i think you need to contact your service provider first to get the IP address and then from there you can go into your settings to secure your line... i'm with comcast high speed internet and i'm using a wireless router (linksys) and once i got my IP address, i was able to synchronize my router and secure our line... if you have the same provider and router, i can help you out; if not, i advise you to call your internet provider and they should be able to walk you through everything... hope that helps! good luck!
