Yes, you can lose weight during a pregnancy if you are too fat. Walk for at least 40 minutes every day. The regular exercise will also help you have an easier birth

As far as I know, no pregnant woman should lose weight that I've heard of - but at the rate you are gaining you should definetley start eating well and exercising, to at least have a goal of gaining slower. A lot of people (including myself) took the opportunity of being pregnant as an excuse to sit around on the couch and eat junk food. This is not so - this is the time when you need to be getting into as great a shape as you can - its hard work carrying and supporting a baby but it's even harder work going into labor and you are going to need as much strength as you can build up.

Have you been tested for gestational diabetes? That is often a concern with such a huge weight gain. I think it might be more of a risk LATER in pregnancy, but check now. If it's the case, they are going to restrict your diet, BIG TIME no matter what. I'm sure, if you are seeing one already, your caregiver is probably already concerned and has flashed the red flag - if not, you should alert them of this and have your blood sugar tested.

I'm assuming this is your first pregnancy? Each pregnancy is different anyway, but it really depends. With my first son, I gained 50 lb.s, then about 20-30 with each of the following 3 children, but I was very lucky. I lost all of the weight that I gained during the pregancy plus five lb.s within the first month after each of my babies were born. I've found the key to maintaining a healthy weight for me is smaller portion sizes, but eating freqently throughout the day - trying to make healthy decisions along the way, but not depriving myself. If I want something fattening, I eat it - & then just compensate with healthier choices for the rest of the day.
So, the answer is yes, a pregnant woman can lose weight AFTER the baby is born. The most important thing for you to worry about right now is eating healthy and NOT starving yourself. Speak with your doctor AFTER the baby is born regarding losing the weight, IF it is necessary. ENJOY this time as much as you can - you have a lisence to eat anything you want right now.

Good luck!

No. A woman usually gain from 30 - 40 lbs during pregnancy. For women who are already overweight, it is generally safe to gain 25 - 30 lbs. The weight gain is not only due to the developing fetus but also from the placenta, amniontic fluid, and an increase in blood volume. A developing fetus demands a great deal of nutrients from the mother. A deficit of nutrients harms both the fetus and mother. For women who are obese, they also need to be careful about gestational diabetes. Gestational diabetes is a type of diabetes that can develop in pregnancy. Though gestational diabetes can develop in any women, women who are obese are at higher risks.

After giving birth, the mother usually retains some of the weight gained in pregnancy. Things that can help to reduce that weight is excercise and, interestingly enough, breastfeeding.

BTW, pregnant women can still excercise which is healthy for both the mother and fetus. However, be sure to consult your doctor first.

your doctor will be able to help you with a plan, and a rate at which to acquire a more healthy weight. I would say trying eating right, and enough, remember you're taking in a few extra hundred calories for the baby. Try walking. Its not strenuous and wont cause stress for the baby.

Most doctors frown upon any weight loss durring pregnancy. But they should be able to help you, at least, maintain your pre pregnancy weight.

There are also pregnancy fitness groups you can join, such as at the Y or another health club, that could also help you along the way.

No, you can't lose weight when you are pregnant. I tried doing this by not drinking soda. I had lost 10 pouds between appointments and my doctor said that losing weight can cause stress on the baby and it's not safe. Just wait til after you have the baby to lose weight

It is not recommended by most medical practitioners that a pregnant woman try to lose weight, because that could be detrimental to the development of the baby. However, equally important is proper nutrition. If you have an OB, ask him or her about appropriate diet management. There could also be other reasons for your unusual amount of weight gain that should be addressed at your next regular appointment. (As a P.S.....if you don't have a regular OB, you should find one ASAP. Or at least you should be under the care of some kind of medical practitioner, like a CNM or such.)

I've known people who lost weight while they where pregnant and the baby did just fine. If your child doesn't get nutrition directly from the food you eat then your body simply transforms some of the stored fat cells back into glucose and you and your baby both "eat" that. My wife lost weight during the first part of this recent pregnacy and panned out during the next half. She's due any day now and baby is doing just fine.
