She's 11 weeks old now and just won't stop putting her hands into her mouth.. Is this normal? I don't think she is hungry or so. Doing the same thing with her blankets.

She hates pacifiers. And it can't be hunger since I just fed her 2 min ago..

With "feeling sick" I mean that she touches that little thing in the back of her mouth-What's the word :-D?

It's normal for a child to put everything into their mouth. It's called an "oral fixation" and everybody goes through it. Next she'll play with her poop. It's no big deal. It's a way that children learn about the world around them. Just make sure there are no small items near her that she can choke on.

I agree you should make sure your baby doesn't have an oral infection.

I agree that your baby could well be teething. Just as some babies are born with hair (I was and so were both my nephews and niece) some are also born with teeth, so do check for teething.

I agree that it could be a comfort thing (i.e. a kind of substitute for a pacifier -- not all babies take to a pacifier -- only my youngest nephew did).

Babies and toddlers do put thing in their mouths all the time, too. They do that because it's part of how they explore an object.

What do you mean when you say your baby gets sick from it? Is there an illness due to transmission from germs on the hand or... (this might be unlikely but) is your daughter perhaps touching/bumping her uvula (little thing that hangs down in the back of your mouth that can even induce vomiting if "properly" stimulated)? What sort of symptoms are you seeing?

sounds like she might be teething. Babies have no set age for teething, some are even born with teeth. Or it could be that its a comfort thing for her.

I would say get her some little new born mittens, and keep them on her, it will atleast protect her skin from all that abuse. They are common at all stores, theyre popular for premies and new borns since their toes and fingers can get cold easy, even on mild days.

If she's causing a huge problem with it, check with your doctor to make sure she doesnt have an oral infection (thrush can itch before it hurts), or help you find a way to get her through this stage.

sounds to me like she is starting the teething process. my daughter does the same thing. she is now 4 months but started chewing her fingers and blankets my fingers, really anything she could get a hold of. try giving her a wet cold wash cloth. when things get cranky try tynol and teething tablets, teething gels, teething rings, waffles (EGGO). all of these work for teething.

good luck

IT'S VERY HIGHLY LIKELY SHE'S IN THE EARLY STAGES OF TEETHING. THIS MAY MEAN YOU WON'T SEE TEETH FOR A WHILE BUT NONE THE LESS HER GUMS ARE BOTHERING HER. YOU WILL BE DEALING WITH THIS FOR QUITE SOME TIME. IF YOU NEED REASSURANCE CONSULT HER PEDIATRICIAN. IF YOU CHOOSE THE MITTEN IDEA MAKE SURE SHE DOESN'T EAT THEM OFF AND CHOKE.

My son would gag himself with his fingers because he thought it was funny that I would flip out. I think it is probably an age and manipulation thing.

Just ignore it and when she makes herself sick....just say "see what happens when you do that". Sounds cold but sometimes you have to just be logical with them so they understand that they have a choice not do it.
