Einschpritzen (sp?) which is german for fuel injection may be the answer. Whenever you see a Mercedes with an "e" in the model that was what it stood for in the older models. Somehow it seems a little out of date today, when just about every car made is fuel injected, but early on most cars were not and fuel injection was an expensive mechanical operation worth boasting about. Now that it is electronic and cheap, it seems silly to mention it in a car's model name, but old habits die hard.
