California, because it is a progressive state as far as education is concerned. Also, I believe it has the highest base salary...

Not Maryland...don't know why...probably too close to the political gumbo we call DC.
Florida is pretty well known for schooling.
Nevada is good because they have higher pay and one-time incentives to start teaching there, but I think that would be more specifically Vegas. I would NEVER live there.
California has a real strong teachers union, generally, but I've heard good and bad. The bad thing about California is they are the test dummies. Any "new" educational toy that comes along the state adopts to see if it helps.
I didn't answer your question, but no matter where you go, there will be problems. You have to balance where you go with what lifestyle you want. BTW, while California has higher teacher salaries, remember the cost of living is through the roof.

I teach in Maryland. It's a decent state, but its proximity to DC almost forces it to be a leader for NCLB requirements and thought processes. Its retirement system only recently was updated. We were the worst state (including Guam and PR) for retirement benefits. It's better, but not perfect. The salaries in MD are pretty competitive. I'm not sure about FL, NV, or CA, but MD also uses a county-wide school system (which I really like compared to a district system). One flaw this state's education system has is that teachers can only have an association, not a union.
I would like to stay in this state for some time. As I gain more years into the teaching service perhaps I'd move up to PA, which has a much better pension system and unions.

If it was Gulf part of N. Flordia, I would go there. I would also go to Maryland because anywhere back east is nice. It would depend on what part of Nevada. Rural or urban and how well the people might or might not recieve you there. But i would never go to California. How could you take yourself seriously as a human being and a teacher out there? Wait- are you going to be teaching materialism, how to be shallow, how to be dependant on a car for the rest of your life, or how to breathe dirty air? If you are teaching any of those things go to Cali. Good Luck!

If it's government, sorry, public school, go to Maryland. The northeastern states have a much better school system than the other choices you listed.
BTW, I live in Florida.

Maryland. Not as expensive to live there as it is in CA, better school systems than Nevada and Florida, mild weather, it is a no-risk area.
