That would depend on your meaning of efficient. The Sempron is going to be more efficient as far as power consumption. If you looking for power into the process and "faster" getting the work done then no doubt that it is the Athlon64. It has a unique design and more on board memory. Lastly, if you are not a high end user of robust applications, you won't be able to tell the difference between the two in performance if you are surfing or using word. Good luck.

There is absolutly no question. In terms of performance the Amd Atlon 64 3400+ is better than the Sempron, depending on what you mean by effeciency.

THE AMD ATHLON 64 has a bigger L2 cache.

That's the simplest answer since you didn't specify which revions we are dealing with. E3 revison of the sempron doesn't support 64 bit, while the E6 revision does.

The claw hammer Athlon 64 (revison: C0) doesn't support SSE3, which most of the newer Venice Athlons 64's do.

AMD Sempron uses 1.85 volts and the Athlon 64 uses 1.5 volts.

The Athlon 64 3400+ is faster, it may have the same GHz but all the specs are much faster.

Athlon 64-----------64 bit of computing power!! To optimize the CPU power, you must upgrade the memory at least up to 1 GB. And don't forget the graphic card.
