Gatlinburg is one of my favorite spots. It is very wacky.
Of course there is Dollywood, which is incredible but there is also
an alpine slide, chair lift, Ripley's Believe it or not, Guiness Book of world records, world of illusions, a fun house, various haunted houses, an earthquake ride, an aquarium, a museum of hollywood cars, lots of mini golf (hillbilly golf is the best) and gokarts. Ober Gatlinburg is really fun. It is an amusement park on the top of a mountain, you have to take a sky tram to get up to it.

The city itself is beautiful, because it is basically this small town nestled between two mountains. There are so many great shops and sites. You are going to love it. Not to mention the natural surroundings around Gatlinburg are incredible, plenty of hiking, bird watching, canoeing, white water rafting, horsebackriding and more. Gatlinburg, Tennessee is home to the Great Smoky Mountain National Park. This is one of the most visited parks in the nation and makes Gatlinburg, Tennessee an excellent choice for your upcoming vacation. The Great Smoky Mountains National Park is one of the few places remaining in the eastern United States where black bears can live in wild, natural surroundings. The Black Bear has become a symbol for Gatlinburg, TN. Here is a list of the waterfalls you can see near Gatlinburg, Tennessee!
Laurel Falls
Grotto Falls
Abrams Falls
Rainbow Falls
Ramsey Cascades

My favorite plave to eat in Gatlinburg is definately the Pancake Pantry, the most incredible pancakes. There are also some good BBQ restaurants around.

Gatlinburg is extremely tourist-y. You should find plenty depending on what you're interested in. I only stopped there long enough for my brother to buy a cigar and we wandered around for a bit, but we stopped for pancakes, watched taffy being made, wandered around a mall, and stopped again for ice cream. Neither of us are much into generic tourist attractions but we saw plenty of those around.

Also there is a short trail that leads from Gatlinburg into the Smoky Mountains if you're interested in that. I can't tell you exactly where it starts (I'm sure it'd be on a map) but it goes past the stone ruins of some old houses and follows a river for quite a ways. Very pretty. If I remember correctly the other end comes out at one of the visitor centers in the mountains (you have to walk behind a couple other buildings first and down the road a ways, but there are signs).

Oh my, beautiful Gatlinburg. I think there is a little bit of something to do for everyone of all ages. Mind you now, it is not a Disney World type of place. So much of Gatlinburg is scenery.
Don't miss Cades Cove. It is a gorgeous trip up the mountain with alot of history behind it. The quaint little shops in the foothills will entertain you, and the souviners are aplenty. They are known for their pancakes and waffles, but there are not alot of places to eat there. Go to Pigeon Forge for more eating places. If you care for theme parks, DollyWood is ok. You had best like country and bluegrass music. ha ha
Oh yes, there are alot of live country shows and musicals.
And also, Gatlinburg has a beautiful indoor Aquarium.
Have fun!!!!!!!!!!!!
