First one: Factors to (6a+7)(6a-7)
Set one equal to 0...6a-7=0
6a=7
a=7/6 ...or 1 and 1/6

Second one equals x-8 over x-3 times 3-x over x-3
Then you can multiply and simplify
(x-8)(3-x) / (x-3)(x-3)
