Just go to gmail.com click on " Sign up for Gmail
using your mobile phone" They will send you a text with a number code you enter that got your account easy simple

Just go to http://www.fatwallet.com and go to the "free stuff" forum. Their is a thread devoted entirely to people giving away Gmail invites. Loads of invites for free.

Yep, you have to get invited, but people already said they would invite you. When you go to gmail.com, you can sign up, but with something to do with a cell phone.
