I have three cats wish I had a dog. If I was getting a dog I'd get a female males lift their legs to pee and kill plants my mom had that problem when we had a male dog, and cats I'd get a male also females are fickle and whiny.

I have 3 cats (2 female, 1 male) and a dog (female).

It depends on what kind of lifestyle you have. If you are settled in and not planning on going anywhere soon, a dog can be a great friend. They need a consistent schedule, though, or else you could have some, er, stinky problems. We didn't have a preference with male or female, we got our dog because she's an Aussie and she was stuck in a shelter. Sold! :) Male dogs don't necessarily pee with their leg up, so the plants may very well be safe if you get a male. It all depends on their breed, I believe. My parents' cocker spaniel peed like a girl. *shrug* Male dogs can be agressive, but females can be too (more so, I think, in some cases).

Cats are good if you work a weird schedule, or don't want to be taking a dog out every few hours, or live in an apartment or move frequently. They take care of themselves, let you know when they are feeling cuddly or playful, amuse themselves, etc. My suggestion is that if you get one cat, get two. That way, they can keep each other company when you are at work. As for male or female cats, that is a big toss up. On one hand, female cats are oh-so-sweet and love to play. But they can be B-R-A-T-S! Male cats can get territorial, and then it just gets ugly. Just because the cat is fixed, does NOT mean that it won't pee in the house. If they are obstinant, or if their litter pan isn't 'just right', you'd be surprised what they can do.

Overall, I think what I'm saying is that you should start by looking at your lifestyle to determine which would be a better pet. Once you decide that, then you can start looking at pets and go from there. If you go to a shelter, I've found that the animals pick you .. you have no say in it. :)

I defintley think you should get a dog/female because cats are independent and live there own lives. Dogs love to be pet and be with you. Males are to territorial.

get a female cat. if you get her fixed, she wont go into heat (which is really annoying!), a boy cat will spray to mark his territory. a cat you can leave alone for awhile, dogs you have to let out every morning and night, everyday. also dogs poop in your yard where you might step in it, cats are easy to train to use litterbox, not too likely youll put your foot there!!

Get a neutered cat (either sex). They will love you and not get mad or mess up your floor if you have to go away for the whole day and leave them in the house. Plus they clean themselves!

depends on your lifestyle, the amount of hours you work, the type of temperment you need, the size of house you have, and what you want it to do for you. You would need to be way more specific, to get an answer anywhere close to your prefences.
