Obviously they'd be on the equator, and I'm assuming they'd both be on 'dry land' - which rules out the obvious 'Prime Meridian/Equator' intersection.... So what do people reckon, and why?

The West Pole would be exactly at the intersection of the Greenwich meridian and the equator, about 400 km south of Accra, Ghana, in the Gulf of Guinea.

The East Pole would be exactly at the intersection of longitude 180 degrees East and the equator, about 800 km north of Fiji Island, in the Pacific Ocean.

It is interesting to note that while the North and South Poles are frigid and are inhabited by, or are of interest to whites, the East and West Poles are tropical and are inhabited by blacks.

The universe is balanced!

The north and south poles have meaning because the earth rotates around a line, or axis. East and west poles would be meaningless because that's not the way the earth rotates.

And I would have to dispute what a previous answer states. The points that represent 0 degrees longitude on the equator and 180 degrees longitude on the equator (both points border the nothern, southern, eastern, and western hemispheres) are in the ocean and are inhabited by fish and invertebrates, not people of any color.

Like one of the answers above me, I live on the East Coast of the US and everywhere is both east and west of me except those things that are directly north or south of me. Hence, E and W poles are unreasonable and just kind of dumb (no offense).

I would say where the prime meridian and the equador cross for the west.

For the east, where the international dateline and the equador cross.

Nowhere, they don't exist for a reason, and to try and hypothesise they do exist is about as useful as claiming the world is a two sided pizza with a stick through the centre.

no because from everywhere you stand on earth, N and S are the same for everyone. but E for people in china is different from e in Africa. think about it, you can only go N so far, but you can keep on traveling East.
