rex_rrracefab: The reason I single out the USA is because no one believes that we have police corruption here. The think it is ONLY elsewhere.

The best answer is nothing. Matter of fact all police forces in the USA have a type of slush fund which is a type of corruption when they pay out to informers the amount of bribes i think are very small compared to what the politicians make. I think most policemen are fairly honest anyway they do not have the safest job in the world.

You can take the profit out of organized crime. Laws that allow police to conduct business as criminals, and then seize property are corrupt. I'm speaking of undercover sting operations. Most corruption has to do with vice, and the number one vice in USA is drugs.
Read; Serpico; The French Connection; etc.
I talked to a boxer from Lebanon once. He said Lebanon doesn't have corruption in sports, because athletes are paid as members of the local police department. I asked him if that didn't corrupt the police department, and he really didn't have an answer.

while not all policemen are corrupt, there are that few in each department in almost every town.these people tend to leave bad taste in folks mouths that cause others to post questions like this one.what i think should happen is>is other officers report those who do brake the law or simply look the other way, then of course this is considered snitching, which is a secret code for no,no.i raised my son well and while i know what kind of up right person he is,i know that there are bad police that make the whole barrel look bad.billy jack once said"when the law breaks the law, then there is no law, just the fight for survival."

Why do you single out the USA? Ever been to Vietnam, or Mexico? Ever hear of the story of the guy that thought his back yard looked horrible, until he went two doors down the street and saw the neighbors back yard. Now he thinks his own back yard looks like paradise.

I have never had a problem with any cop that ever pulled me over.
If I did get pulled over it's always something I did without knowing I was doing something wrong. like a busted headlight or taillight.
I have never had to get out of my car and put my hands on the car or anything like that. And I've always listen to the officers instructions. They have enough stress so as it is.

Corruption happens everywhere! Police corruption can not be stopped, they are individuals working on their own with a badge.
They are fired when found out!

Understand the reasons for it and fix those, I do not know of USA police curruption but for instance in India the primary reason for this is low salaries, if one is not paid well they will start looking at other ways to get money
The second aspect is environment, bring good leaders to change the environment, ability to do wrong reduces if all are doing good around you.

... if the police are willing to do the job ... let them do it without harrassing them about corruption ... who cares about a little corruption ... as long as they do their jobs and keep me safe, i could care less what else they do ... we should support out police and stop finding things to complain about ... they risk their lives for us everyday ... give them a break ...
