You may have a virus, so get antiviral software, or spyware which can be destroyed by Spybot Search and Destroy. Check your cookies file, and your temp files (all temp files can be safely deleted--that's why they are temporary files). I saw a computer with the same problem that was caused by the huge number of files in the temp directory. If that doesn't work then check your hardware--your connection, your modem or cable box.

Make sure that you are running a current anti-virus program. Right now, Trend Micro P'C'illin seems to be best, next is Norton AntiVirus, everything else is after that....get it at Sam's, Best Buy, CompUSA, or go to their website and download it and burn it to a disk for safe keeping. Then install it.

Even if you don't have viruses, you probably have spyware. A general term for a program that surreptitiously monitors your actions. While they are sometimes sinister, like a remote control program used by a hacker, software companies have been known to use spyware to gather data about customers. Some spyware hijacks your browser and serves up ads from competitors instead of the page you were requesting. Your computer may be running as many as 200 spyware/adware programs in the background, which slows your computer way down or causes freeze-ups.

go to this website it will give you better instruction

Clean out your cookies, your extraneous emails and whatever else you don't need. If you have dial up it will be slow anyway. You probably have a bunch of old junk on your computer and some spyware. Get ad-aware to get them cleaned off too. Then defrag your computer. I think that will help.

and be sure to get a good anti-virus program. that will help keep some of that stuff out.

You probably have a bad install. It could be spyware or a virus, but most likely it is a program you recently downloaded or installed. If you believe you installed something at about the same time as this started happening, try uninstalling the program with the uninstall file for that program.
