Are those "incentive" programs a scam? You know, the ones where they ask for your information and say if you sign up for programs on certain sites, (like, joining ancestry.com for a trial membership), that you will win a free ipod, cell phone, laptop, etc. If you complete the things they ask you to do will they actually send you a "free" item? I'm not naive, and I know it sounds way too good to be true, so I'm just wondering what the trick or catch is? Personal experience would be a plus!

Ok here's how it works: You sign up for this free "widget" and then you are taken to a page or two that is full of offers that you can also sign up for. Usually these are trial offers from companies. Here's the catch though, in order to get your free "widget" you are required to also sign up for 3 or more offers from other companies. In the end you usually end up paying as much as you would if you just bought the "widget" outright. Of course doing it this way you also get some extra stuff from the offers you completed.

One time I did this for a free laptop, and yes I did get the laptop, but it costed me like $1200 from signing up for other companies offers and products.

Most of these offers have small print which includes something like this: "In order to qualify for the free Ipod (or whatever) you must apply for and accept at least one offer." And these offers are for trial memberships, credit cards with huge application fees and yearly fees, etc.

There is an old saying that is very true even today; it goes, "If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is."

Don't waste your time on these scams.

The amount of information that those people want, they can, get a passport, use your name take all of your money from your account. Do anything they want, and then you would have to pay. If they say that you have won, forget it. How can you win if you haven't entered the contest, or bought a ticket. They are just scams and my advise is forget them and don't give them any information about you. Remember nothing is free. I lost some money through internet scams. Want to spend your money go to bingo enjoy your self at least if you lost it then your the one that did it. Good Luck.
