My cousin does something similar, but he's almost 3. He likes to stick his hands in his poop and once he even rubbed it on his face. Normally he just likes to squish it in his hands. My aunt gets out the hose and hoses him down to get him to stop. He's done it about 2-3 times after that, but at least he doesn't do it as much!

The best way to stop him from doing this is put veggies in his poo. Everyone knows that kids will always stay away from veggies. (I'm sorry, I couldn't resist.) Tell stink face "no" in a calm and firm manner. Dump the potty and flush quickly. He will outgrow this. Tell mom that this is something to hold over his head when he is a teen. It's a great way to break up an unwanted future relationship. Take a picture and keep it around for the teen years. He will be a compliant child that will obey until he leaves your house.

If this is a real concern I will tell you what I know. I have heard of people craving things that are not considered edible. I think it is called Pica. It usually indicates that the child is lacking something in his/her diet. Consult your family physician and report this! It may be something as simple as needing a daily multivitamin. If he is eating his own stools, that is bacteria that may make him sick. Don't let this continue!

You know, my mother has told me that I used to play with mine in my crib, but never eat it!!! I honestly have never heard of any toddler doing that before. Did he have problems learning to poop in the big potty. I guess that it could be a psychological stage that he is going through. I would seriously speak with your pediatrician about it.

Sorry that I couldn't help more. Being a mom....I know that it would be frustrating. Not saying that being a dad it wouldn't be frustrating either....but it would be hard.

Good luck!!
