Yes, I am a writer and have met a number of them. They are human, and they have their own weaknesses, so there's no point in qualification of someone as a jerk, some of em are forced to be jerks by the public which just refuses to let them have their own private space, so, no I don't think they are jerks, maybe someone did behave like a jerk on a one off day, but not all the time.
Chill out!

My friends uncle met Jessie McCartney. He said that he was a real priss. There was also an article in Sweet 16 magazine that explained how he has such a bad life because he didn't get the car he wanted for christmas, but he got it anyway 4 months later (probably because he whined for those four months). There are people less fortunate then him, and all he thinks aobut is a car.

Being old and from NY, I have met tons of celebs.
Robert Plant at a Phil Collins concert, awesome person
Stevie Ray Vaughn in NYC, very cool. Had coffee with him
Scott Weidlen (sp), the lead singer from STP, (although I am not a fan), no real opinion
Geraldo Rivera, walked into him by accident. ok person
Rony Seikaly, kicked him out of my restaurant for being rude
Brian McKnight, real nice person
Daryl Worley (who is one of the nicest people you would ever want to meet)
Wrestlers- Sandman, Raven, Rob Van Dam, Lex Luger, Randy Savage, Bob Backlund,Shawn Michaels, Steve Richards, Michaels was very nice and even though he was on a schedule, he stayed at my restaurant and signed autographs
Stonewall Jackson (older country singer)
Gary Anderson (NFL all time leading scorer)
just to name a few.

I worked as a security guard in college (it didn't interfere with classes and it paid the bills) and worked at about 20 or so concerts.
The biggest names I ever encountered (I won't say met) were Bill Cosby and Harry Belafonte. Both were polite to everyone off-stage, no ego trips, but they were all business and didn't entertain until they got on stage. Belafonte turns the smile on and off like a tap.
I met other lesser names, working many concerts by small-time Canadian bands. One was a big name in the 1990s whose public image was "rah rah, fun fun, let's party" but was a complete jerk backstage. (I won't name him, but you'll find him in a *Webster* dictionary.)
Moe Berg (anyone remember "The Pursuit of Happiness"?) played up the "teen angst, sexually frustrated" image on stage but was shaking hands with everyone backstage (including me), just happy to be there.
One more thing: I have never met him, but I agree with Jimmy Buffett's ("Margaritaville") view on fans. He said in an interview that if he's alone, out shopping or such, he doesn't mind people saying hi, taking a picture or asking for an autograph as long as they don't act like he owes them something. But when he's with his family, he's off limits and won't stand for the intrusion. I think that's perfectly fair.

Yes, my X and I used to own an ambulance company in Hawaii and the movie sets used to use one of our ambulances in scenes that needed one. I met Tom Selleck (Magnum PI) and he is just as nice as he looks. I also met other people on his set and they were great. I also met Richard Chamberlain on one of his short lived series in Hawaii. He was OK but not that friendly. I think a lot of actors try to keep their distance from the public so as to have a private life and not be judged.
