Yes - depending on what age your baby (sorry - I am pro-life and believe that it's a baby, not a fetus) is. Babies in the womb have proven that they feel & know more than we thought they do. Babies feel fear & happiness depending on what the mother feels. I'm not sure if a baby cries, but on ultrasound they've seen babies suck their thumbs to comfort themselves. They've also seen babies react to abortions by their heart rates going up & moving away from what is coming to get them - classic reaction to fear (the same reaction I would have if someone I didn't know came at me).

Babies in the womb are amazing - they can learn music & books & their mothers' voice & the voices of others that are close to them. They react to bright lights, sudden moves by the mother & million other things that we have yet to discover.

Enjoy your pregnancy. Read to your baby, play music, talk to it like it's already here and can understand what you say. The bonding process beings before birth - and only gets better from there!

It doesnt necessarily cry when you cry, but it is effected by emotional feelings. Generally, the hormones and chemicals released by the mother when she experiences certain emotions.

I found the following quote for you. Im sure there are many, many more, but I have to stop somewhere!

"A question very commonly asked is whether maternal emotion elation, fear, anxiety, may be communicated to or influence the foetus. Certainly, with monitored foetal hearts, there may be abrupt changes in rate with sudden maternal emotions. Such responses could be mediated indirectly by changes in maternal arterial pressure, or directly by substances, for instance catecholamines, which cross the placenta. It has been argued that since the foetus experiences only the consequences and not the cause of the emotion itself the experience would mean nothing to him. More recently this view has been challenged on the evidence that the pharmacological induction of the physiological responses to fear and anxiety induces the sensation of fear and anxiety also but this may be just a learned response."

I'm sorry to mess up your opinion poll, but I must disagree with my esteemed colleagues on this panel discussion. It is of my opinion that although your unborn child may not respond the way you respond (i.e. you cry, he/she cries), however, Your mood greatly impacts the child. If you are anxious, your baby will be affected, if you are sad all the time and depressed, your baby will be affected. If this were not so, the AMA would not recommend all the things they do to stimulate your child in a positive way before they are born. Music and reading is quite important. Connect with your unborn child. You can and should daily. Love ya!

No. A fetus has it's own unique personality, temperament, nervous system and blood type. The mother being stressed can affect the fetus' mood via blood pressure and heart rate.

No. It's isn't developed enough to even understand emotions or react to them. And depending how far along you are, it might not even be developed enough to have tear ducts, so it definately can't cry then.

don't know if they cry with you but they do know what emotions you are going through. And they feel what you feel. Even after they are born they know when something is wrong.
