I recently sold someone something for $200.00. The bank cashed the check...then when my paycheck went in the bank they took 200.00 out of my check because his check bounced. I no longer have their phone number and it's not on the check...only a P.O. Box. Is there anything that can be done about this or anyway I can collect the money? Thanks in advance.

Call the police and file a complaint. Kiting bad checks is illegal.

Dear Danielle this is not that uncommon to be a victim of fraud for being a trusting and decent person in a business deal.you have resourses available to you. you can start wherever you are comfortable such as contacting local law enforcement and seeing what legal criminal action they may be in violation..After that you should see what civil actions you may be able to make their life miserable with in small claims court(such as serving them a summons with a process server or sheriff should brighten their day) and get satisfaction if not a judgement against them in court. find out if you could use this action against their credit rating. In California it is a crime to knowingly write a check on a closed account. I would let retailers know (anonymously of course) and post their check and face on telephone polls and after awhile lose interest and just let the memory fade and chalk it up to bad judgement. In closing I would accept cash (checked with a counterfeit money pen only a couple of dollars) money order or cashier check and last but my least favorite drive to the bank branch the check is drawn on and cash it before delivering any goods or service unless you know the person and are sure of them. people owing you money has a strange phenomenon attached. it affects their memory they forget your phone number, where you live, what you look like and all the places they are likely to run into them and lastly that they owe you. good luck in your next deal.

Well this ought to be a lesson cause you can verify their address to make sure it is okay. Also you can get an address on the check. Next, time you can get the driver's license. There is no check that clears in one day so waiting until it clears is best before sending out merchandise.

You can call small claims, yet they might send you to the sheriff's office which requires a copy of the check when you go.

Most, if not all states, have laws about this. Call the Sheriff's dept. and ask if they have a bad check division. Most do; most are very good at collecting because people don't like to be threatened with jail. Even if they can't be found, they will have a warrant issued.
