low self esteem

2006-06-17 14:29:25 · answer #1 · answered by dtstuff9 6 · 1 0

I am a teen (16 year old) girl. I don't wear skimpy outfits out in public. I am a dancer and obviously we wear minimal clothing for many dances except for ballet and pointe. I don't understand it either, to be honest. I think many people want to find acceptance in a world where a main focus is sex. Many girls are just desperate. Sooner or later they will realize that they are acting foolishly. They will grow up. It's just the REST of us that have to suffer...

A lot of them do it because it is a way to gain acceptance in a peer group. At that age, establishing an identity within a group is an important growth period, used as a bridge toward independence from family and establishing a "self". It also is a way to boost self-esteem, especially in girls who went through an "awkward" phase and were picked on.... when she finally has an enviable body, this "swan" wants to show it off & get some admiration. It is not all about vanity, it really is just a phase in development.

to be quite honest, I'm not sure where you live, but i live in the deep south, where it is hot, ad although in the summer you may see young teenagers dressing inappropriately skimpy here and there, like you always have, i actually see it a lot less than before, and i think its mostly because fashion today is less conducive to this. the style in fashion magazines is more layered and covers the body much more. personally however, i find that children/teens wearing this type of clothing is usually a result of lack of education, low income, and poor parenting. most of the time teens have much more shame at that age, have many more image issues, and are much less likely to dress skimpy unless they are in fact engaging in promiscuous behavior.

Well, not only does the media show them that it is the way to dress cause all of the celebrities dress that way but they also like the attention that guys give them. I hate it when I see some girl in a skirt that shows her butt cheeks and a shirt that doesn't fit her so her boobs are hanging out and she is complaining that guys are whistling at her and making rude comments. Well HELLO!!!! Dont dress like a complete sl*t and the guys will have more respect for you! But like I said, they like the attention.

Well for one, look at the magazines of today, what is being shown for the ideals in fashion? Low-Cut tops that don't at all cover and dresses/skirts that do nothing to hide anything. Also because of the ideals that teen girls are maturing they are wanting to show off their new & improved bodies to show that they are no longer children.

because their role models do. i am 14, and i dont wear skimpy clothes! the last time i wore even a skirt was 4 months ago and it went past my knees! and i only wear tank tops and spagetti straps in my house to sleep in! my friends dont dress that way, either. its just the attention thing; the dont accept attention in the right way. it really bugs me too, but we have to deal with it, just like we deal with people who swear frequently, people who procrastinate, people who arent organized, and people who cheat on their spouses. it's not our jobs to correct them. we can help, but dont let it fret u so much that u ask a question about it on Y! answers.

Because young people today have completely little or no self-respect and therefore need someone to tell them how to be cool. Therefore they listen to those on television on magazines and mimic what they look like and how they act. In fact they should just be themselves and stop acting like they need to look a certain way to be accepted by society.

They just want to be noticed by the guys and get some attention. But they do need to grow up.

Because of the attention that they get from people. It makes them feel better about themselves (just not in a good way)

those people are just hating probably because they are fat old maids cyring alone at night.

the real reason is because most of them have the bodies to pull that stuff off. personally i set rules as to what i allow myself to show so i don't look like a complete harlot but hey, to each his own
