This is a sample of the cities I've been to:
Louisville, Lexington, Nashville, Memphis, Knoxville, Birmingham, Mobile, Jackson, MS, Dallas, Fort Worth, Austin, San Antonio, Galveston, Atlanta, Washington, DC, Cincinnati, Columbus, Dayton, Northern Virginia, Baltimore, North Jersey, NYC, Indianapolis, Orlando, Huntsville, Houston

If you can, please choose from this list. But if you have another one you absolutely must add, you're welcome to do so! Thanks!

My personal picks:
Friendliest (in order): Galveston, San Antonio, Ft. Worth, Austin, Memphis, Nashville (all are great)!
Least friendly (in order): Louisville (yes, it sucks, I used to live there), North Jersey, Orlando, Dayton, NYC

Yes, believe it or not, NYC was much friendlier than Louisville, I thought; people will actually hold doors open for you and give you directions if you ask for them. I've never been to a place with people so grouchy as L'ville. Texas, on the other hand, is mostly warm and friendly.

I know I'm not too well traveled, and that I will offend some people who might see this (especially those from Louisville.) Sure, there are very nice and very mean people everywhere, but I'm just giving my honest opinion on these places; the ones I've listed I've spent some significant time in.

I've been raised in Kentucky, and there are plenty of good folks here.

Wow - you really haven't been many places. That's really sad. I feel bad for you. It must be hard having such a small understanding of the world and your place in it.

I would say that the "friendliest" city I have visited was Barcelona. There are so many kind people there who will go out of their way to help you. It's also very diverse, and many different groups all live together without big problems. The stigmas attached to immigrants in Italy doesn't really seem to exist in Barcelona.

The "least friendly" cities I have visited were Paestum, Italy and Sharm el Sheikh, Egypt. I travelled to both places alone, and found that the men there were incapable of viewing a single woman as anything other than a vagina. I might have had a different experience if I'd been a man, or married, but "friendliness" and "respect" should apply to EVERYONE.

You only really get to know if a city is friendly when you live there. I used to hear that San Antonio was a super friendly city and I believed it, for about 2 weeks after I moved there. The people are rude not only to your face but also while behind the wheel. While living in SA I visited Austin frequently (its only 1 hr away), they're a pretty friendly city. Then 6 months ago I moved to Houston.... people here are surprisingly friendly. The customers at my work are always super friendly, the employees at the grocery store are always helpful, even the employees at the convenience stores greet you with a big smile and a friendly "hello how are you today?" I think its safe to say that I'll be living in Houston for years to come.

Friendliest city for me is Houston because this city is made of so many people from all over the USA and other countries. I think because many of the people families are elsewhere and they just want to belong and mostly because in Texas.
Austin is the least. So many people have moved here also and this town was well established as a family city. And now because so many people have moved into Austin, they are not happy with changes and intrusions.
I am from Austin and I live in Houston. When I moved back to Austin, on my, it had changed so rudely. As some matter of fact still is, needles to say I came back to Houston.
I've traveled all over the USA and other countries. I'm very friendly so I get along w/ most places I go.And when traveling outside the states...key is to familiarize yourself w/country and language.

I agree, Texas cities were surprisingly friendly.
I also agree with North Jersey and NYC being amongst the least friendly, but there's a caveat in that the people in the rest of NJ are very nice, especially South Jersey.

You are so right about Louisville!!! It's like a "broke-a**" version of certain parts of Los Angeles with that
"unnecessary unfriendliness" the nice people, like myself are few & far between. People are usually a bit friendlier accross the bridge in Southern Indiana. One of the nicest places I've been was Little Rock, Arkansas & Also, Santa Cruz, CA was swell. I've not been to NYC in a while, but I can say it was an overall positive expierence with the locals.

It's not on your list, but St Louis is one of the friendliest cities in the USA. Ask any of the professional athletes or anyone else that's lived in the area. There are several that came back to live after they retired.
Last I heard, St. Louis was also 2nd on the list for charitable donations (behind Detroit).

Davis, California.

You can walk to everywhere and it's really quiet. It's near big cities like Sacramento and San Francisco, but it doesn't have all the commotion of those cities. Everyone's nice (at least everyone that i've met). Plus, you can see all the stars in the sky.
