I started to miscarry 5/22/06. I was about 5 weeks pregnant. I completed the miscarriage 5/30/06.

We have had unprotected sex a few times since then. When should I take a pregnancy test? I have yet to have my first period. I hear they are out of whack after a miscarriage, so how am I to know if I'm late or pregnant?

Please just tell me what day I should take the test so it shows up correctly. Thanks!

I am not sure which day to test, but from personal experience, the first 3-6 weeks afterward are open game. Because the uterus is still "open", your chances are higher of becoming preganant again. However, be careful because your chances of catching an infection are greater as well. You should probably wait another week and then test, just to be safe.

A pregnancy test (HPT) can give you a false positive up to 8 weeks after having a miscarriage or giving birth.

I am sure that your hormone level is way down by now but it could still give you a false positive even if you are not pregnant.

You can get pregnant right after having a miscarriage. When i had one my period returned the very next month when it was due and the doctor told me to wait 2 months before trying again.

A blood test would be better cause they can tell by the hcg in your blood if you are pregnant or what is left over by your miscarriage.

I am so sorry for your loss.

Q: After my miscarriage, how long should I wait before I try to conceive again?

A: It is suggested that you wait two normal periods (around eight weeks) before you try to conceive again. Ovulation can resume as early as two weeks after a miscarriage, so you should use effective contraception immediately.

Ovulation can occur 14 days after a miscarriage with the next period 28 days after the miscarriage, but there is great personal variation. It may take a few cycles before your regular pattern is re-established. This means that you can become pregnant 14 days after a miscarriage if you resume a normal cycle immediately, but there is a great personal variation

You have 3 choices. You can wait a couple of cycles to see what your cycle length is now. You could start charting your cycles (read _Taking Charge of Your Fertility_ by Toni Weschler for details). Or you can just keep testing without knowing if it's too early. Just like there is no way for *you* to know when to test (and you're *there*!!), there is no way for anyone who has never met you to know...

Whichever one you choose, good luck!!

By the way...it takes *at least* 8 days and often up to 3 1/2 weeks after sex before a pregnancy test is going to be *very* accurate. If you had a miscarriage, your HCG levels normally go down pretty quickly (the later the miscarriage in the first trimester, the longer it takes the hormone levels to drop, so you're probably okay by now...).

First off hun sorry for your loss. I miscarried in Oct, I was told not to test until 8 wks have gone by. Because your period is so outta whack that its hard to really say when it should come. Mine took 40 days to show up after my miscarriage. So I would try to wait it out 8 wks, if you cant than at least 6 wks before testing. Good luck!

I would suggest waiting one or two weeks past when you would have normally started your period. When I miscarried two years ago my period resumed roughly around the same time as it normally did, although it was much heavier. I miscarried in July and was pregnant again in October (which resulted in a beautiful baby boy).

I wish you good health with your next pregnancy.

Faintness of the line has nothing to do with it. Yes you could have ovulated later and there for no longer plenty of hcg on your body but in addition many exams have various quantity of dye in them. Some from the equal field can have one of a kind amounts. As long as the road doesn't go away, congratulations are so as and have a happy and helathy 9 months.

When I miscarried, I still had some of the pregnancy hormone in my body a month later. If you don't want to get pregnant, don't have sex.
