Lovely, you're making a dangerous assumption. It's called "intra-racial prejudice," and is indicative of a bias that you may personally hold. Whenever we "hate" some quality in someone else, it is indicative of a hatred we hold for an aspect of ourselves. And as long as people like yourself continue to perpetuate that old slavery mentality, we as a beautful people, will never overcome it.
As it happens, I do believe I'm beautiful, but my skin has nothing to do with it. Have you never heard the expression, "Beauty is as beauty does."? It's an oldie, but never more true than now. Beyond superficial "prettiness," what about a person's inner beauty; and beyond that, their lasting beauty?
If you can dig deep and find those qualities within yourself, you won't ask supercilious questions like that. Be confident and beautiful in the skin that you are in, darlin'--the skin that God lovingly placed you in--and go forward into your destiny. More importantly, concern yourself with the issues of "real" importance in your own life, and in life in general. Then--and only then--will life's beauty unfold before you. If not, very sad and empty days lay ahead.

I'm light skinned but I don't automatically think I'm pretty because of it. I think it's stupid to think you're "automatically" pretty for ANY reason. There are some really ugly light skinned girls. And there are some beautiful dark skinned women etc etc
oh as a matter of fact what lez beau said is true.
Learn something about Black History and it'll answer your question more clearly.
Some of it has to do with this: the darker you were, back in the day the harder you had to work. The lighter you were you got to stay in the house and clean and stay out of the sun. The dark people had to stay outside and work outside, they also had to sleep outside too. When slavery was over, light skinned people still thought they were better than the darker ones and they were all still treated the same.
Now a days, light skinned people "think" they are cute cuz darker people (for the most part) are insecure about themselves and wanted a light skinned person so their child wouldn't be so dark.
But I think its all stupid.
I remember when me and my family first moved to Los Angeles in the mid 90s. We were from Alaska. My dad is Black and my mom was Native American. when we got there we were jumped everyday in LA when we went to the pools. I knew the girls there were jealous but I didn't understand why all the drama.

That's a really good question. I'm biracial, and when I go out with my friends that are darker than me but equally attractive I'm usually the one getting hit on. So maybe its societal, So I don't think I'm pretty because I'm light skinned, I'm as beautiful as my white and black friends. So maybe they think they are pretty because of how people react to them.

Thats because society makes it that way. It goes back to the salvery days when their was house ******* versus field ******* (no offense) When the master rape the dark skin sisters and produce a mixed kid. Their way of doing their part was to make them work inside of their homes as a form of child support etc. Check out history. The house salve always felt that they were part of an elite crew cause they got to work out side. This mentallity carried on to genarations. Specially amoung black women who really believe if their light skin then their s--t dont stink.

because they are told that since birth.Do you notice that adults will walk up to a light skinned child and tell them they are pretty and walk right pass a dark skinned child and might not even take the time to speak.
