I have taught in both here in Texas and if I had a child I would personally send them to a private school. I was in a "top" public school in the suburbs and now teach at a nationally-ranked inner city private school. However, it depends on your state. Unfortunately, Texas has so much red tape in the way that students are blocked from learning while in private school there is none. You have the support of parents, the community, and the students and you are able to challenge their thinking without having to worry about law suits, inclusion, etc. Private school cuts through the BS and gets to the learning business. All our kids have books, have the support they need, and all have the opportunity to succeed because no one is lost in the shuffle of public schools.
Also, the credibility of the private school is important. There are some pretty cruddy schools out there who lack accreditation and any type of credibility. In that case you're probably better off at a public school.

I am a teacher in a public high school so one would think I would say public. And until two weeks ago, that was the case. I am now teaching summer school where students have to pay $200 per class. I have a class full of kids who want to learn and who are taking their education seriously as opposed to the apathetic students I normally have during the school year who just want to get by . If you ask them why they have changed, it is because they are paying for it. I don't necessarily know if you need the strict guidelines of private schools but there is something about paying for an education that forces kids to want to get an education.

Yes I do. I know that the public is affordable and has very hard discipline, but we are talking about the quality. Public schools are often dirty and some teachers are very tight. In private schools, the teachers are graduated and are very professional. The students are very few so that you can have your focus. The private may be very expensive, however they will help you in a better future.

It depends on what type of school you go. It doesn't mean when you go a private school it is better. Even some of the great teachers in the world you can find are teaching in public schools. But in terms of discipline, you can't get it anywhere....well, that's just me.

I think so because that kind of school has to maintain and always upgrades itself. On the contrary, a public one is dependent on the state's or country's policies. So the public schools are like all cakes of soap out of molds in the factory while private ones are individually different!

Actually it has nothing to do with free spirit or uptight-ness.
It depends on what your goals in the future are, where you see yourself going, what funds you have available and sometimes where most of your friends go.
Just because a person goes to private school doesnt mean there a tight ***, and just because a person goes to public school doesnt mean there a free spirit who smokes pot and does graffiti.
